Alpha means unfinished: expect rough edges and missing pieces, and saved worlds may reset between updates. Free to download; friends should play the same build.

Night over the woods from high above: pale dead trees, dense old oaks, ponds and a winding path, misty hills beyond

A vast, procedural wood

The wood goes on without you.

Every world grows from its own seed: six kinds of forest, rivers and ponds, ruins and broken roads, night falling over all of it. Walk far enough and you find what is left of other towns, and what lives between them.

Four armoured rabbits, their names above them, fighting two wolves together in the woods at dusk: a sword swing, a spear thrust, daggers and a drawn bow

Co-op

The woods are better with company.

Host a private world and send your friends an invite. Forage, build and fight side by side; rabbits survive by numbers, never by strength.

  1. Start your world. Multiplayer → Host your world, then enable hosting.
  2. Send an invite. Copy the invite link and share it with your friends.
  3. Step into the same woods. They open the link, choose Open Underbriar and join. The host keeps the game running.
A walled rabbit town from above at dusk: a stone moot hall with lit windows, timber and stone homes, workshops, a well, fields and watchtowers on the walls

Settlements

Rebuild what was lost.

You find refuge in a failing village in a bad place. Mend its homes, relight its hearth, raise walls and a hall. Fed and safe, its people settle in, work their trades and build beside you, until one day it is yours to govern.

A grown rabbit riding a deer down a woodland road at dusk, a loaded wooden cart hitched behind, and a squirrel on a deer following with a travois

Roads, mounts and carts

Lay the road home.

Buy a deer and ride it. Hitch a cart and haul timber back to town. Govern a town and build roads to the others, from a trodden path to lamplit stone, and watch the carters take to them.

The character page: a young adult rabbit, five stages of growing up, and nine skills levelled by use The crafting page open on gear: leaf wraps, helmets, packs and greaves ready to make from a stocked backpack

Skills, crafting and cooking

Grow by doing.

Nine skills rise as you use them. Forage, farm and cook; craft from bushcraft to copper and iron, in poor, good and fine. Grow up from a kit with a single heart into a grown rabbit who can face a wolf head on.

A rabbit child out in the birch woods with foxes about, the quest tracker reading: Bring the old friend home. Find the shelter in the north, bring food and a travel bundle, ready an empty home The journal: the village's quests (repair the well, build a workshop) and one out in the wilds, the Berry Oak

Quests and the journal

Stories the woods tell.

There is no main story written for you. A letter on a body, tracks by a loner’s hut, a town under siege: quests grow out of the world as it is, and what you do there is remembered.

A small rabbit child caught at night between a snarling bear and three wolves, by the broken fence of a ruined town

Predators and legends

The woods have teeth.

Foxes, wolves, wolverines and bears are stronger than you, and they hunt in packs. At first you flee and hide. Gear, skill and friends slowly turn the odds, and far from home, rare legends wait.

Talking with Rowan in a village at dusk: “Come closer, little one. The wolves keep their distance from our lights.” Your standing with Rowan reads Known Rabbits and a squirrel sitting round a campfire in the woods at night, a grown rabbit standing with them

Relations and friendship

People who remember you.

Every villager has a trade, a home, friends and a wish of their own. Win them over one by one: a true friend will follow you into the dark. Families form and children grow up. No one is safe forever.

A failing village at night inside a broken fence: ruined homes, one lit window, a thin column of chimney smoke, two rabbits keeping watch

Grim, but fair.

The world has largely fallen to wilderness, and nobody quite knows why. There are no cities: only a few sad villages and the ruins of others. The rabbit is small and the night is long. Everything good in this world will be your work.

What does alpha mean?

Underbriar is playable but far from finished. New systems arrive often and some are rough; art, balance and saves can change from one update to the next, so a world may need to start over. Friends playing together should all use the same build.
